You can fix this
Likely cause: mineral buildup in the rim holes
Crusted rim holes slow the water that drives the flush. Clear them with a wire or soak them with vinegar.
Why this happens
HomeTips lists mineral buildup in the rim jets as a weak-flush cause and says to use a mirror to inspect the openings. Korky notes water should enter the bowl in a circular flow. When minerals narrow the holes, less water reaches the bowl and the flush loses power.
How to fix it
- Use the mirror to find the blocked holes under the rim.
- Clear buildup with a stiff wire, working each hole gently. HomeTips suggests this or soaking the deposits with vinegar.
- For heavy deposits, soak the rim area with white vinegar before you scrape.
- Flush several times to rinse and check the flow pattern again.
If this does not fix it, tell the plumber
- Water comes from the rim unevenly and you cleared the holes.
- Whether the flush improved.
