Vent, Valve & Volt
Low water pressure at one faucet or the whole house

You can fix this

Likely cause: debris in the cartridge or a stuck diverter

If a clean aerator did not help, debris in the cartridge or a stuck side-spray diverter is next. Flush the valve and replace the part that is restricting flow.

Why this happens

Moen lists debris in the cartridge, debris in the aerator, a stuck diverter or a malfunctioning wand as the causes of low flow on both hot and cold. On a faucet with a side spray, Moen says to squeeze the spray trigger several times, then replace the diverter if flow stays low; otherwise replace the cartridge and flush the valve body. Moen also says to check the supply lines from the shutoff valves.

How to fix it

  1. Faucet with a side sprayer: squeeze the sprayer trigger several times with the water running and see if the spout flow improves.
  2. Check that both stops under the sink are fully open and the supply lines are not kinked.
  3. Shut off the stops, open the faucet to release pressure, and close the drain.
  4. Remove the handle and cartridge. Moen says to flush the valve body when you replace the cartridge; follow your faucet's instructions for doing it.
  5. Clean or replace the cartridge, reassemble, and test. Match a new cartridge to your faucet using the identification index below.

When to stop. If the stops will not turn, or the cartridge will not come out, stop rather than force them.

The part that fixes it

These fit single-handle Moen faucets that use the 1225 cartridge. Other brands' cartridges are faucet-specific; match yours first.

If this does not fix it, tell the plumber

  • One faucet is weak on hot and cold, even with a clean aerator.
  • Whether it has a side sprayer or a pull-out wand.
  • Whether the stops are fully open and whether you flushed the valve.
