You can fix this
Likely cause: the hose connection or the cartridge in a pull-down faucet
On pull-out and pull-down faucets, check the hose and wand connections first. If those are tight, Moen's fix is the cartridge made for your model.
Why this happens
Moen's guidance for a kitchen faucet leaking around the base says pull-out and pull-down faucets need the cartridge for that specific model. Moen also says leaks from the pull-down wand itself go to Moen support, and that replacement parts for those are available only through Moen.com or by phone. Pfister's kitchen leak guidance adds checking hose connections and hose integrity.
How to fix it
- Pull the spray head out and look along the hose for cracks or wet spots.
- Check that the hose-to-wand connection and the hose connection under the sink are tight.
- If the leak is at the base and the hose is dry, shut off the stops and replace the cartridge for your exact model.
- If the wand itself leaks, contact the faucet maker. Moen lists 1-800-BUY-MOEN for its wands.
Identify the part first
Not sure which part you have? Pull the old one and match it by brand, length and broach on Stems & Cartridges, an identification index of faucet stems and cartridges by part number.
If this does not fix it, tell the plumber
- It is a pull-out or pull-down faucet leaking at the base.
- Whether the hose or wand is wet, or only the base.
- The faucet brand and model number.
